solid-state camera meaning
[Electronics]
A video camera device that makes use of solid-state technology. The target is a matrix of charge-coupled devices (CCDs). When light strikes these devices, charge carriers are separated in a manner similar to that in a photovoltaic cell. The matrix is scanned according to a particular scheme, and the voltages developed in each CCD combine to produce the video signal output.
